Middle school students holding up books at "Creating a Home Library" event

On Wednesday, March 8, Lakeville Area Community Education held its second annual “Creating a Home Library” free book event at the Heritage Library in Lakeville. The event provided more than 100 books to elementary readers to build up their home libraries.

Prior to the event, middle school student volunteers conducted a book drive to build an inventory of gently used, free books. After building their inventory, the student volunteers set up their “store” with help from the Heritage Library staff. They spent time sorting and grouping books by genre and age, creating table signs, and more!

The day of the event, students in grades K-5 picked out books to take home with the help of middle school student volunteers. The students were so grateful and excited to collect a few new books!
