Lakeville South student wins Player of the Year award, first to win award twice
January 9, 2023
A Lakeville South High School student is the first in state history to win the Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year award twice! The two-time winner is Carson Hansen, who plays on the LSHS football team. The award recognizes athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement, and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
On the field this season, the senior running back rushed for 1,727 yards and 21 touchdowns, leading the Cougars (9-3) to the Class 6A state semifinals. His high school football career ended with 4,532 yards and 57 touchdowns.
In the classroom, Hansen has maintained a 3.68 grade point average.
Outside school, Hansen has volunteered locally with Feed My Starving Children. He has also helped organize and run a youth football camp.
In December, Hansen signed his intent to play football at Iowa State University during a Signing Day ceremony held at Lakeville South High School.
Hansen is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award, which is set to be announced in January. As a Gatorade Player of the Year recipient, Hansen will receive a grant to give to one of Gatorade’s social impact partners in order to pay it forward to the next generation of athletes.
