Lakeville North and Lakeville South Seniors Named 2021-2022 Athena Award Recipients
April 6, 2022
Congratulations to this year’s St. Paul Area Athena Award recipients from Lakeville Area Schools, Grete Engels and Georgia Deml! Every year the Athena Awards program recognizes a school’s most outstanding female senior student-athlete for their athletic achievements. Award selection is based on excellence in individual sports or for participation and accomplishments in team sports.
Grete Engels is Lakeville North High School’s 2021-2022 Athena Award winner. Grete excels in many high school sports including nordic ski, cross country, lacrosse and track and field. Along with athletics, Grete is involved with school and community programs, such as National Honor Society, Campus Faith Club, vocal music performance, bible study and church volunteering. She has also shown high academic achievement with a 4.07 GPA.
Georgia Deml is Lakeville South High School’s 2021-2022 Athena Award winner. Georgia is the Lakeville South Girls Tennis team captain and multi-year MVP with 94 total career wins–the 3rd highest in the history of Lakeville South. Outside of tennis, Georgia participates in National Honor Society, student council, Student Voices, table tennis, and actively volunteers as a youth tennis coach and various community service organizations. She has also received the Academic All-State award for her academic accomplishments.
Congratulations to both of these outstanding Lakeville Area student-athletes on all of their achievements. They will be recognized alongside all of this year’s Athena Award recipients at the St. Paul Athena Awards event on Wednesday, April 20.
