Panther Announcements for Tuesday, Sept.26, 2023

All:  The Lakeville North Mock Trial team will be starting its season soon! If you have any interest in the law, in being an attorney, in practicing and perfecting your verbal and written communication skills, working with a great group of teammates, learning new subjects, learning new skills, and of course, having fun!, then you are strongly encouraged to join and help build a strong Lakeville North Mock Trial program.  

 

Our first two sessions are planned for Monday, October 2:  6:15 – 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday, October 10 5:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m in Room S101.  This year’s case will be a criminal case, so we will be working on prosecuting and defending against a criminal charge.  Criminal cases are always fun to work on and develop!  Please contact Mock Trial Coach Patrick Larkin at pjameslarkin@gmail.com or 612-810-4088 or Mock Trial Captains Connor Frame (connsfram19@isd194.org), Ava Buschbacher (avacbusc29@isd194.org), and Bryn Schlauderaff (brynmical@icloud.com) with any questions you may have.  We plan to see you at the upcoming meetings!

All: LNHS Homecoming schedule next week:

All: Lakeville North Chess Club is meeting again.  We have our first official meeting on Monday, October 2, starting at 2:45 pm.  We will meet in room N211, which is the large study hall room overlooking the student parking lot.  All ability levels are welcome, from beginner to advanced.  "Check" out our posters for further information.  Questions? – see Mr. Dirks in room N304 before or after school. All:  Parents and students!  The National College Fair will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center on October 4th from 5pm-8pm.  Colleges from around the country will be in attendance to answer all your questions and give out information concerning their college. ALL: Come check out LN Ultimate Frisbee team!  Any LNHS student is welcome.  Each Wednesday until it gets too cold @ 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.  Takes place at Steve Michaud Park.  Make sure to bring: Water, Tennis shoes or cleats, wear comfortable clothing.  Questions? All: Love reading and sharing book recommendations? Join LNHS Book Club! First meeting is October 2nd in Mrs. Baese's room (S117 ) right after school. During this introductory meeting we will pick the books for the whole year! Monthly meetings will include snacks and lively book discussions. Seniors:  FALL 2023 Senior Study Hall/Online Learning/PSEO/Work Experience-OJT

Please fill out the Student Release Form WITH YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN if you plan to leave the building for:

  • Senior Study Hall

  • Online learning 

  • PSEO

  • Work Experience-OJT

When students scan out of the building, parents/guardians will receive a notification via email. Any student requesting release should NOT have any classes scheduled after leaving. North is a closed campus meaning that students who leave the building for the day cannot return. (Added 9/19/23)

All: Credit/No Credit: Students who are interested in taking a course on a credit/no credit (pass/fail) basis should discuss this option with their parents/Dean and complete this form. Once students submit this form, they CANNOT change grading systems back to an "A-F" grading system.  Deadline is November 3, 2023 by 3:00pm.

All: "This Barbie is going to Homecoming!" The Homecoming Dance is coming up on Saturday October 7th from 8:00 - 11:00 pm at Lakeville North. The theme is Barbie, but students are not required to dress to that. Tickets will be $5 and go on sale Friday September 29th at 8:00 am online. If you would like to bring an out-of-district guest this form must be completed by an administrator from your guest's school by 3:00 pm Friday October 6th. All:  LakevilleWorks.org. Students who are looking for part-time jobs can find job postings and applications for local companies who are hiring right now. The website also has resources for post high school decisions – interview preparation, resume builder, career quiz, and more. (Added 9/19/23)

All:  Lakeville Chamber of Commerce is hosting Future 101: Planning for After High School learn more and plan for students' after high school years.
Discussion on financial aid, scholarships, FAFSA, types of colleges (2 and 4 yr options), test preparation, in demand careers available, and alternate pathways such as military entrance.
This will be held at Lakeville SOUTH High School for all parents and students.

Peer Tutors Needed:  Want to volunteer your time or make a difference in a peer's academic future?  All information can be found on the LNHS, Career Center or Academics website. Sign up to become a Peer Tutor on the LNHS, Academics, or Career Center homepage:  Peer Tutor. The Peer Tutor website page students can also sign up to obtain a Peer Tutor throughout the year. All: Are you interested in travel, exploring new places, and having bucket list experiences? LNHS teachers Alison Gipp and Jason Boggs are planning student trips to Portugal & Spain in June 2024, Ireland & Scotland in June 2025, and Peru in July 2025. We are having informational meetings Thursday, September 21 for Portugal & Spain, and Tuesday, September 26 for both Ireland & Scotland and Peru. Both meetings will be at 6:30pm in room C211 at LNHS, and families can also attend virtually through Webex. Attention Junior and Senior girls: If you are  interested in playing in the PowderPuff flag football game for Homecoming week. Powder Puff will be TUESDAY Oct 3rd from 6-7:30pm.  There is no cost but you must attend a brief info meeting this Friday 9/15 in N306 either at 7:45am or at 2:45pm. Sign up packets are available outside room N306 and are due to Mrs. Cutshall by Monday 10/2/23. Please see Mrs. Cutshall in N306 with questions.

All: Bingo!  Cash Prizes! Come out this Sunday, October 8, from 3-5pm at Angry Inch Brewing in Lakeville.  The LNHS Speech Team will be hosting Bingo for anyone 18 and over (under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).  We will be giving out cash prizes!!  Come out and support our team and a fantastic local business! Juniors & Sophomores PSAT Exam : The nationwide PSAT exam (optional test) will be given on Saturday, October 14th at Lakeville SOUTH High School with students arriving by 7:45am. Students who have a GPA of 3.8-3.9 or higher should consider taking this exam. This is NOT a college admission exam. Sophomores would take this exam for testing experience, (including to take it again as a Junior for their Nat'l Merit score). Junior students would take the exam for a score used to get into the National Merit Scholarship Program. Juniors take this exam to be placed in scholarship levels, such as Commended, Semi-Finalist, or Finalist for the National Merit Scholarship and other nationwide scholarships. These scholarship donors seek out students based on their score, to receive their scholarships. The exam is $35 and available through LNHS parents' Infinite Campus portal, school store, testing. Attention all Junior and Seniors!  LNHS schedules college and military representatives throughout the school year. Students will need to sign up and obtain a pass to attend these visits from the Career Center before each visit. All: 2023 - 2024 Yearbook Information

Families can guarantee the purchase of a yearbook at www.balfour.com through January 15, 2024. Between now and November 30, 2023, the cost is $75 for the yearbook, $85 with personalization. Senior packages are available between now and October 31, 2023 for $110. The senior package includes the yearbook, a personalization, and a baby ad. While the baby ad is optional, the only way to purchase one is by purchasing the senior package. 

Prices for the yearbook will go up on December 1, 2023, and they will go up for the senior package on November 1, 2023. No baby ads will be available after November 30, 2023. 

Seniors have until November 30, 2023 to submit their senior photo. Please use this link: Senior Photo Submissions. We will send out information in October for the senior quotes, but start thinking about what you want to say now. If any students (not just seniors) want their name different from what is listed in Campus, please contact us at the email below.
