Lakeville Winter Guard competes on world stage

April 25, 2024

To round off an incredible season the Lakeville Winter Guard varsity team took to the world stage with their first appearance at the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships on April 12 in Dayton, Ohio. The team had a solid first performance on the world stage, making it to the semifinals and placing 24th overall.

“Our performance was these students’ first show on such a massive stage! Finishing in 24th place is a really high placement for a first-time team,” said Melissa Nielsen, Lakeville Winter Guard Director. “We were super grateful they could end their season on a run that they were proud of.”

Before the world championships, the Lakeville Winter Guard had an excellent showing at the state tournament on April 6 at Osseo High School. In their respective divisions at the state tournament, the Varsity team took 1st place, the JV team took 2nd place and the Cadets team (elementary level) took 1st place.

Lakeville Guard starts up again on May 7th at 5 p.m. at Lakeville South. Students interested in joining Lakeville Guard should contact Melissa Nielsen at
