Policy for Returned Checks
The Lakeville Area School District contracts with e-TECH, an Iowa firm that handles all returned checks. Reasons that checks are returned include: NSF (not sufficient funds), account closed, refer to maker, and stop payment actions. The School District, like many businesses, receives an increasing number of checks that are returned for the above reasons. e-TECH manages the entire process electronically and notifies your bank of the transaction. Individuals will be charged a $30.00 fee for each check that is returned to our bank. We hope all parents are responsible and send with their students only valid checks for fees, school meals, and other school related items. If you prefer to make payments by credit card, please visit:
- LINQ Connect for meal account payments
Check writing privileges will be revoked after the third (3) NSF instance or in the event that e-TECH is unable to collect on a returned check. Approval of this application is subject to the review of your 36 month payment history in the District. The District will deny the application if the 36 month payment history includes returned checks or outstanding credit collections.
Student Account Refunds:
If you have left the school district and would like to request a refund, please fill out this form: Refund/Transfer/Donation Lunch Account Request
Special Dietary Needs
Special Dietary Requests
Student Nutrition will provide reasonable meal accommodations on a case-by-case basis for student when medically necessary. Medically necessary is defined as a physical or mental impairment that substantially affects one or more major life activities or bodily functions.
Prior to being able to make accommodations, a Special Diet Statement form must be completed by an authorized medical authority: Licensed Physician (MD or DO), Physician Assistant (PA), Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or CNP), or Registered Dietitian (RD or RDN).
Please contact your child's school nurse or the Student Nutrition Department to initiate requests and obtain a copy of the Special Diet Statement form. The Special Diet Information link below provides more information on the process to request special diet accommodations for your child.
Lactose-Free Milk Requests
Lakeville Area Schools will provide lactose free milk for students with lactose intolerance. Parents can request lactose free milk for their student by submitting the lactose free milk request form. The form must be submitted each school year.
For questions regarding special dietary needs, contact your child's school nurse or Kim Harren, RD, SNS at: kim.harren@isd194.org or 952-232-2062
Safety comes first in everything we do. When food allergies exist, we encourage families to work together with their child's school nurse and kitchen manager to make sure that safety measures are in place.
Peanuts are a common allergen. We are not a peanut-free district but do have measures in place to protect your child. Please contact your child's school nurse and kitchen manager for any school specific information (ex: nut free table, etc.).
Allergen & nutrition information for our menus can be accessed online by clicking on the Menus tab of our website, or via the LINQ Connect app on your mobile device.
Educational Benefits
All families are encouraged to apply for Educational Benefits each school year. A NEW application must be submitted each year to qualify for educational benefits. If a household who meets the State/Federal eligibility guidelines is approved, educational benefits are included for those students and supports your child's school.
Eligibility can be based upon:
- Income
- Foster Child - Single person qualification - not entire household
- Receipt of any of these benefits:
- SNAP
- MFIP
- FDPIR
- Medicaid (School district will be notified by MN Dept. of Human Services)
If you think you may qualify or are interested in applying for Free or Reduced Price Educational Benefits, you can fill out an Application for Educational Benefits beginning on July 1st for the upcoming school year. Applications can be submitted throughout the year for the current school year.
If your family does not qualify for Educational Benefits, your children will still receive one (1) free breakfast and one (1) free lunch each day. Funds will be required to purchase a 2nd complete meal, additional milk or entrees, or other ala carte items. Please visit the Meal Prices and Payments Tab for information on how to add money to your student’s LINQ Connect account and view ala carte prices for the 2025-26 school year
Important Things to Note
- Families must reapply for meal benefits at the beginning of each school year. New applications for the school year are available July 1 each year.
- Families who receive SNAP benefits may be directly certified to receive free benefits by the state. If you have been directly certified, we will send you a letter notifying you that we have received certification from the state for your benefits. If you do not receive this letter each year, you must reapply.
- Families that receive MFIP or FDPIR may be directly certified to receive benefits by the state. If you have been directly certified, we will send you a letter notifying you that we have received certification from the state for your benefits. If you do not receive this letter, benefits will need to submitted on an application. These applications will need to submit the case number instead of income.
- Families that receive Medicaid may be directly certified to receive benefits by the state, depending on the family's income. If you have been directly certified, we will send you a letter notifying you that we have received certification from the state for your benefits. If you do not receive this letter, you must reapply.

There are four options that you may choose to direct the distribution of your senior's remaining balance:

Donate part or all of the balance to our Feeding it Forward fund. (This is an account that helps students on a temporary basis with lunches when they are struggling to pay for lunches.)
-
Make a payment to bring their negative balance back up to zero.
* Refunds and transfers of remaining funds will be processed in late June after school has ended. Then once a month after June. Please fill out this form: Refund/Transfer/Donation Lunch Account Request to let us know how to disperse the funds.
