S-EBT Benefits
-
During the pandemic, the federal government provided pandemic-related Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) benefits for qualifying students who learned remotely and did not have access to school lunch. It also provided an amount to each qualifying family to be used over the summer. That summer funding is now permanent (S-EBT), and all students attending an in-person school who qualify for free or reduced-price educational benefits between July 1, 2023 and August 31, 2024 are eligible to receive $120 ($40/month) to purchase food over the summer. S-EBT is jointly implemented by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS).
Breakfast and lunch are free this year for all students, but this funding is only available to students who qualify for free & reduced-price educational benefits and attended a school participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)* in school year 2023-2024.
*All Lakeville Area Schools except Lakeville Online Academy participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)

Tax Credits for K-12 Educational Expenses
The Minnesota Department of Revenue offers two state tax benefits to families with students in Kindergarten through grade 12: the K-12 Education Subtraction and the K-12 Education Credit.
These benefits can reduce families’ income taxes and increase tax refunds if they retain receipts for their children's qualifying education-related expenses. Qualifying expenses may include paper and notebooks, pens and pencils, rentals, and purchases of educational equipment, among others. Most Minnesotans are eligible for both the K-12 Education Subtraction and the K-12 Education Credit, subject to certain income limits.
Learn more on the K-12 Education Subtraction and Credit webpage.

Pandemic-EBT Benefits for Families
Students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals may be eligible for Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) to purchase food for days the student is not physically present in school due to a COVID-19 impact. To be considered, households must submit an application for free or reduced-price meals or be approved for Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. P-EBT benefits are effective starting on the approval date of the application for free or reduced-price meals. Families who received P-EBT benefits last summer are not automatically eligible; eligibility is based on the current school year.
