Middle School Athletics & Activities

Cross Country introduces boys and girls in 6th-8th grade to the sport of running and provides ability and age-level racing experiences. Middle School KTMS/MMS South Runners practice at MMS with occasional practices at LSHS from 3-4:30. CMS/KTMS North Runners will practice at Century Middle, with occasional practices at KTMS from 2:15-3:45 pm. 

KTMS students register for the team based on their attendance area and will take a shuttle bus after school to their practice sites. 

2 - way bussing is provided for all away meets. 

Students need running shoes and a digital wristwatch (optional).

Tennis is open to girls in 6th-8th grade. Tennis practices Monday through Friday for 1-1 1/2 hours at each middle school and have matches 1-2 times a week after school in the Big Suburban Conference. 2-Way busing is provided for away meets. 

Athletes will be selected to the team through a lottery that gives preference to older grades, capping at 30 players for CMS and MMS, and 20 players at KTMS, which is based on the number of courts at each middle school. 

Players need tennis shoes and a tennis racket. 

The Middle School Boys Soccer Program is designed for the athlete to learn the game at an appropriate level, have fun, and get healthy exercise. Coaches determine the number of teams based on the number and ability of players. Each Middle School has its own team that is capped at 36 players per school.

MS Girls Volleyball has a program at every middle school. Each program is capped at 36 players. Players are selected by a lottery that gives preference to older players first, then younger players. Each program has multiple teams that compete in the Big Suburban Conference 1-2 times per week after school. 

MS Volleyball practices every day after school for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. 

Players need shorts, T-shirts, socks, gym shoes, and knee pads for practices. 

Each school issues a uniform to each athlete for the season. 

2-Way buses are provided for away games. 

The MS Girls Swim Team is an all-Lakeville middle school combined team, hosted at MMS, and is open to all MS girls. Students from KTMS and CMS take the shuttle to MMS from their middle school. After the first week, practices are 1-1 1/2 hours. Team compete in multiple meets. 2-way buses are provided for away meets. 

Each Athlete should have an athletic bag, a one-piece swimsuit, swim goggles, and a swim cap. 

Any 7th-8th grade swimmer with competitive swimming experience may try out for the varsity program in August. You must also register to participate on the high school team.

The Middle School Track and Field program is designed to introduce students to the sport, with events suited for athletes of all skill levels and backgrounds. Track meets will feature 8 running events and 4 field events. Practices begin on Monday, April 6. Each team will participate in five scheduled track meets, including one at home and up to four against Big Suburban Conference opponents. If a meet is canceled due to weather or other reasons, efforts will be made to reschedule it, but limited facility availability and event staffing may make rescheduling difficult, and canceled meets are unlikely to be made up. Students can expect to have either practice or a meet every school day unless a practice is canceled due to weather. 

There are two middle school track teams: one for Lakeville North and one for Lakeville South. Students from Kenwood Trail Middle School will register for teams based on their high school attendance area. The CMS/KTMS North team will practice at Kenwood Trail from 2:15 to 3:45 PM. The  KTMS/MMS South team will practice at McGuire from 3:00 to 4:30 PM. Century students will take the shuttle bus to Kenwood Trail, and Kenwood Trail students will take the shuttle bus to McGuire.
 

Middle School Boys Tennis includes daily practice and one to two matches per week. Matches are at the middle school or travel to opponents' tennis courts in the Big Suburban Conference. Practices will start on Monday, April 6, and the team will practice Monday-Friday. Practices will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Century and Kenwood will begin practices at 2:15, and McGuire will start practices at 3:00. Athletes should bring their racquets and tennis/athletic clothing to practices. Athletes should bring a tennis racquet and wear tennis attire every day. 

The Middle School golf program has a 20-person team from each middle school. Practices start in April at Clearly Lake Golf Club. Practices are Monday through Friday with approximately one match per week. Practices start at 3:15 and end at 5:00. A shuttle bus is available to transport golfers to practice. Parents must pick up their players from the course after practice and home/away matches. The golf teams compete against Big Suburban Conference opponents. Practice times are subject to change due to bussing and/or course conditions. Boys and Girls in 7th and 8th grade are welcome to register for the lottery. Athletes not selected will be placed on a waiting list. Any remaining spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We welcome all skill levels. Golfers need tennis or golf shoes and must own their own golf clubs. Clubs cannot be taken on morning bus routes, but can be stored in designated areas at each middle school. 

Introduction to Cricket offered Fall 1 at CMS on M & W from 2:00-3:15 - open to students at all middle schools.

Play Disc Golf on the course at KTMS. Offered Fall 1 on M & W from 2:00-3:15 - open to students at all middle schools.

A variety of "backyard" style games such as capture the flag, kickball, 4-square, wiffle ball, etc depending on advisor and student choice.

Are you ready to build, code, create, and compete? Join Lakeville School’s FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) Robotics Team and take your STEM skills to the next level! Team members design, build, and program LEGO robots to complete exciting missions, develop an innovative project based on this year’s "Canopy" theme, and work together while demonstrating the FLL Core Values of teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.

Robotics is open to CMS and KTMS students and will run from Fall 1 - Winter 2. The team meets after school from 2:00–3:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at CMS, with additional practices as competitions approach. We're looking for reliable, motivated students who enjoy working as a team, are willing to learn and take on new challenges, and can commit to regular attendance. Science Olympiad is open to KTMS students only and runs from Fall 1 - Winter 2. Days and Times TBD

Speech helps students build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and find their voice. Through a variety of fun and engaging events, students learn to express themselves, think critically, and connect with others—all while becoming part of a supportive team!"

The Speech season runs from approximately mid October to the end of February. It is open to students at all middle schools and practices are held at CMS on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00-3:30pm

Zoo Challenge works with the MN Zoo and Flint Hills to design enrichments for a specific animal that the MN Zoo chooses.  The students in the club follow the guidelines and requirements set by the MN Zoo in order to design the enrichments.  We send their final designs to the zoo where staff from the MN Zoo and Flint Hills assess their designs to see which groups are chosen to participate in the competition held at the MN Zoo.  The groups chosen get to head to the MN Zoo and present their projects - there are schools all over the nation that participate.

Zoo Challenge is open to students at CMS only and runs from Fall 2 through Winter 2. Practices are on T & Th from 2:00-3:30pm.

Century Middle School - Coro Bellissimo

Coro Bellissimo is an auditioned extra curricular choir for students who love to sing and wish to sing in a group outside of the school day. It is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Weekly rehearsals begin after fall break and are on Mondays from 2:15pm - 3:15pm in the Choir room. Coro Bellissimo is a year round group that performs in two choir concerts at LNHS in December and May as well as at Century events like 8th grade awards night and the 5th grade parent meeting. Additionally, the choir will perform a showcase in April featuring solos and small group acts from within the group.

Auditions for Coro Bellissimo will take place after school in early October. Interested singers will sign up for a 10 minute time slot and prepare a snippet of a song that showcases their voice well. Previous members do not need to audition. Chosen students will have to register for the group and pay the student activity fee before the first rehearsal.

Century Middle School Musical

The CMS school musical is a great way to get involved, make friends, build confidence and experience the performing arts. Students can be part of the musical cast (of up to 100) which involves singing, dancing and acting on stage in the ensemble, a minor role or lead role. A smaller group of students (10) can be involved with the backstage crew helping with building and painting set pieces, assisting with set changes and organizing props and costumes. Actors who are interested in being part of the cast must audition in October and interested stage crew members will sign up in December. This year's musical performances will be January 22nd and 23rd and the show will be announced after school on September 23rd. There will be an audition workshop followed by a parent meeting on Thursday, October 1st where much more information will be shared.
