Referendum 2024 - Succeeding Together
Lakeville Area Schools is dedicated to ensuring that every student achieves both academic and personal success. It’s our job to create learning environments that foster academic excellence and prepare students for bright futures. To support this goal, the Lakeville Area Schools Board of Education has unanimously approved a proposal to seek local tax funding to expand educational support across the district.
What’s on the ballot?
On Tuesday, Nov. 5, we’re asking voters to consider passing an operational levy designed to strengthen educational support for all students. The ballot will ask voters to approve $4 million in operational funds annually for 10 years to expand teaching positions and hire additional student support staff, so that every student from preschool through graduation has the support they need to succeed.
If approved, the levy will:
-
Provide Consistent Academic, College and Career, Personal-Social Readiness: Adding nine counselor/social worker positions at the middle school level, and two counselors at the high school level, will ensure consistent support in academics, college and career readiness, and personal-social development for grades 6-12.
- Strengthened Behavioral Support: Adding seven behavioral specialists at elementary schools and one behavioral specialist to Crystal Lake Education Center will improve students' behavioral skills, positively contributing to a better teaching and learning environment.
-
Improve Media Literacy: Restoring full-time digital media specialists in elementary and middle schools will boost students' reading, research, digital literacy, and future-ready skills.
-
Expand Arts and Music: Increasing arts and music teachers to full-time positions at each elementary school, will enrich students’ creative and cultural experiences.
Over the last decade, student enrollment has grown by 9%. However, as our community has grown, we have not been able to expand our support systems with the staff required to keep pace with this growth. Our current K-12 student to student support staff ratio is 512 to 1, which is much higher compared to other districts, affecting the level of support and services available to our students.
*If approved, the levy will provide our students the support they need to succeed and will match what other districts are providing. It will enhance our ability to teach academic skills and address both general and specialized needs, ensuring every student can succeed. This is what our community expects and our students deserve.
