Volunteering

If you are in volunteering, please contact the school where you would like to serve to learn more about available opportunities and needs. Depending on your volunteer interests and role, you may be required to complete a volunteer application and background check.

Volunteers are expected to follow school and district rules/guidelines for the safety and protection of students, staff and fellow volunteers. Lakeville Area Schools volunteers are required to comply with state and federal laws; school board policies and procedures; and data privacy laws. View the volunteer handbook.

Certain volunteer roles—such as field trips, coaching, or positions with unsupervised student contact—require a volunteer application and background check. Volunteers cannot begin or continue service until they are cleared. Background checks must be completed online and are valid for one year. If cost is a concern, contact the school principal to discuss options. The District may require background checks for other volunteer roles at its discretion.

It takes approximately 6-8 business days for the background check to process.

The background check will flag any criminal history. It will not run a check on credit scores.

The background check searches for a comprehensive criminal history, while the visitor ID scans only check the national sex offender registry.

Yes, a volunteer application needs to be completed every school year so we can update information and match current needs to each volunteer's interests. By completing the application, you are not committing to volunteering; rather, it starts a conversation with the district about potential volunteer opportunities. 

Yes, the background check will apply for any or all Lakeville Area Schools. However, you will need to identify which school(s) you are volunteering for within the volunteer application form.

Yes. Volunteers who need to complete a background check based on their volunteer role will need to get a new background check once per year, either at the beginning of the school year or within one year from the approval date of the most recent background check. 

No. Any member of the community is invited to volunteer at our schools to help advance our mission of igniting a passion of lifelong learning.
