High School Advanced Learning Options

High School Advanced Learning Program

At the high school level, students have options for honors and Advanced Placement (AP) classes in a wide variety of subject areas. Co-curricular activities also provide opportunities for students to develop and nurture their unique gifts and talents.

Unlike in elementary and middle school, high school students can self-select advanced learning courses based on interest, aptitude, or needs of their post-secondary plan. Students don't need to qualify or meet certain requirements in order to enroll in these courses.

Students have the opportunity to take Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) courses. PSEO is a program that allows 10th, 11th and 12th-grade students to earn college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college-level courses.

The Advanced Placement program (AP) provides high school students with the opportunity to take college-level course work and exams while still in high school, with each course culminating in a rigorous, optional exam to earn potential college credit. AP provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to develop the study skills, habits of mind, and critical thinking skills that they will need in college.

Lakeville Area Schools proudly offers a variety of AP Courses at the high school level across most content areas, including Art, Business, Computer Science, and Music. Actual course offerings can vary year to year based on student registration. To view full course descriptions and the entire course offerings at Lakeville Area Schools, please view the Program of Studies.

Incoming 9th graders might consider these advanced learning courses and guidelines to help them decide which and how many advanced learning courses fit into their 9th grade schedule.
