Digital Citizenship / Online Safety
Families must recognize technology is here to stay, whether we like it or not. The reality of today’s students is that their digital reputation or how they choose to represent themselves online is being evaluated and assessed by everyone, including college admissions departments and future employers. The team at Safer Schools Together created this parent guide to help introduce the major social media platforms and games that are either being used already or have the potential to be used by our children.
Gaggle: Digital Safety Management
In continued alignment with the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), Lakeville Area Schools has adopted an updated digital safety management tool called Gaggle to proactively protect students and ensure they are safely and correctly using school-provided digital tools. Gaggle flags district-issued email and G Suite for Education accounts for concerning content and alerts school officials when students show signs of self-harm, depression, thoughts of suicide, substance use, cyberbullying, credible threats of violence, or other concerning situations.
Through the combined use of Gaggle and the P3 Campus reporting tool detailed on our Anonymous Tip Reporting page, Lakeville Area Schools can proactively identify students who are struggling, provide support where needed, and create a safer school environment. These two tools are part of our larger, proactive safety and security plan.
