Voting Information

  • Referendum Thank You LogoThis special election will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. To find out where you vote (voting is based on home address), check this list of polling locations. You can also use the poll finder on the Secretary of State’s website, which also includes information about early voting and how to register to vote.

    All election day voting will take place at the designated polling locations, not at the early voting locations. You can view a sample ballot here.


    Early Voting In Person

    Early voting dates and times

    Early and absentee voting began on Friday, March 26, 2021. Any questions about early or absentee voting can be directed to Deanna Werner at 952-232-2001 or Deanna.Werner@isd194.org.

    For early one-stop voting from March 26 through May 3 (Mondays through Fridays) voters will complete a ballot application and be issued a ballot that can be completed on-site. Once the voter has completed their ballot it will be sealed in the envelope provided and handed to the voting clerk to await tabulating. Voters who wish to place their ballot directly into a ballot box can vote early in-person at these locations Tuesday May 4 through Monday May 10 during the hours noted. Voter registration can also be done at these locations prior to voting.

    Early voting locations:

    • All residents of Lakeville Area School District ISD 194, regardless of their County affiliation, can vote early at:
      • Lakeville Area Schools District Office, 17630 Juniper Path, Suite A, Lakeville
      • Hours: March 26th - May 3rd, Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
      • Extended hours:
        • Tuesday, May 4th through Friday, May 7th, 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM.
        • Saturday, May 8th and Monday, May 10th, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
    • Only residents of Dakota County can also vote early at these locations:
      • Dakota County Government Center, 1590 Hwy 55, Suite 2300, Hastings
      • Dakota County Western Service Center, 14955 Galaxie Avenue, Apple Valley
      • Hours: March 26th -May 10th, Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.
    • No voters will be able to vote early at the City of Lakeville Offices. 

    Voters who wish to place their ballot directly into a ballot box can vote early in-person at:

    Lakeville Area Schools District Office: Tuesday, May 4th through Friday, May 7th, 8:00 AM-7:00 PM; Saturday, May 8th and Monday, May 10th, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

    OR

    Dakota County Government Center in Hastings, Tuesday, May 4th, through Friday, May 7th, from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM and Monday, May 10th, from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. 


    Early Voting By Mail

    To request an absentee application you can print the application, or call 952-232-2001 to request an application be sent to you. Once you have your application, complete and mail it to the address noted on page two. A ballot will then be mailed to you. 

    • Read the instructions that come with your ballot carefully.
    • You will need a witness when you vote and complete your ballot. The witness can be either a registered Minnesota voter or a notary.
    • Mail the ballot back as soon as you can. Your ballot will not count if it is received after May 11.
